WPL is proud to be offering DAISY books on CD and 800,000+ accessible books through CELA online.
For when reading is difficult because of:

Learning disability: an impairment relating to comprehension

Physical disability: the inability to hold or manipulate a book

Visual disability: severe or total impairment of sight or the inability to focus or move one’s eyes

A WPL CELA membership is required to borrow this material.

Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA)

Waterloo Public Library provides Waterloo residents with print disabilities access to a collection of over 800,000 items in accessible formats through the Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA).

CELA’s bilingual collection includes a broad range of fiction and non-fiction materials for readers of all ages, including:

  • books and magazines in audio, e-text and Braille formats
  • newspapers in e-text
  • described videos
  • children’s picture books with Braille added (print braille)

CELA membership is available to those with temporary or permanent print disabilities, as defined under the Copyright Modernization Act, which includes:

  • Learning disability: an impairment relating to comprehension
  • Physical disability: the inability to hold or manipulate a book
  • Visual disability: severe or total impairment of sight or the inability to focus or move one’s eyes.

Registered CELA members can access materials in the CELA collection by mail delivery service or by downloading digital formats from the CELA web site directly to their computer, mobile device, or DAISY player.
