A graduate of the University of Waterloo, Karen is a former City of Waterloo Councillor (2006-2014) and currently serves the community as the CEO of Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region,
Prior to joining Habitat for Humanity, Karen was a professor at Conestoga College’s Business School, teaching leadership and social innovation courses to tomorrow’s leaders. She was also the co-founder and principal of The Talent Business Solutions, a Waterloo start-up focused on delivering strategic management support to help businesses grow, compete, and embrace change. Her focus is always on developing the capacity of others – her students, a non-profit community organization, or an emerging high tech company.
Karen has served as a board member for several local organizations including Waterloo North Hydro, St. Mary’s General Hospital, The Clay and Glass Gallery, and the Button Factory. Besides being the current Waterloo Public Library Board Chair, she is also a member of the board for the Local Health Integration Network, which coordinates health care in Waterloo Region and Wellington County.
