INTERLIBRARY LOANS SERVICE SUSPENDED, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY
As you may have recently heard, provincial funding to the Southern Ontario Library Service (SOLS), an agency supporting public libraries in Ontario, was cut by 50% as part of the 2019/2020 Ontario budget. Due to this budget cut, we are saddened to inform you that Waterloo Public Library’s Interlibrary Loan Service is suspended effective immediately.
As part of their service to Ontario libraries, SOLS made it possible to share materials and resources by funding an interlibrary loan delivery service, allowing libraries to borrow materials from one another at no cost to our customers. This, in turn, creates more equitable access among libraries across Ontario and helps libraries save costs. The interlibrary loan service was especially important for libraries in smaller or rural communities who do not have large, extensive library collections.
Again, we are disappointed in this service cut. We thank you, WPL customers, for your patience as we assess the situation. Please note that this does not affect items travelling between WPL branches – these can be requested and borrowed as usual.
